In Business Banking, we provide comprehensive depository, cash management, and lending services to businesses throughout our communities.  While our clients are diverse, we are focused on meeting the needs of professional service firms (doctors, lawyers, accountants, investment managers and consultants of all kinds) as well as those in the following industries:  Private Equity, Venture Capital, Technology, Wineries, Aviation and Marine, and Non Profit Organizations. As a Business Banking team member at First Republic, you will work directly with clients to identify their banking needs and financial goals in order to deliver tailored solutions for their businesses as well as their personal banking and wealth management needs.


We are seeking a Business Banker to add to our growing startup banking team, with a general focus on servicing early stage companies.  Ideal candidate will have a general understanding of all stages of startup growth cycles, and be able to work with them throughout those stages.

Business Bankers are responsible for developing client relationships and maintaining existing relationships to enable retention and drive high client Net Promoter Scores.  In addition, Business Bankers will collaborate with new and existing strategic partners to help drive new business opportunities to the Bank. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, an entrepreneurial team player that is passionate about growing a business in a client centric environment.   


What you’ll do as a Business Banker:


  • Develop, maintain, and enhance existing client relationships. 
  • Ability to initiate and drive cross-selling opportunities to existing customers for various products and services across the FRB platform, including: deposits (cash management, on-line banking, and foreign-exchange) and Wealth Management referrals.
  • Develop strategies and execute on relationship management and portfolio management within the startup banking sector.  Candidate should have strong technical knowledge of early to late-stage tech and life science companies along with a familiarity with the startup ecosystem. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of the startup and venture capital industry and market participants. 
  • Focus on building community with FRB startup client base, including creating and delivering events that will help drive visibility for FRB in the market.
  • Generate leads from existing clients and actively grow the business through active networking and client referrals.
  • Perform ad hoc projects to help enhance client experience and improve portfolio management responsibilities.
  • Participation in key industry events, summits, either hosted by FRB or external.
  • Perform other duties & responsibilities as required or assigned by supervisor.
  • Responsibilities include the following: 1) adhering to and complying with all applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to Anti-Money Laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, etc.), 2) adhering to Bank policies and procedures, 3) completing required training, 4) identifying and reporting potential suspicious activity to the BSA/AML Officer, and 5) knowing and verifying the identity of any customer(s) that enters into a relationship with the Bank.
  • Independent Judgment:
    • Ability to anticipate client needs and recommend appropriate solutions
    • Able to aid in the selection process of new clients and determine those that are most aligned with First Republic Bank’s business model and credit culture.
