The Deposit Services team provides operational support to First Republic clients, both external and internal. The Director, Deposits Risk & Control is a key member of the first line of defense and has responsibility for monitoring and enhancing the group’s control management framework. 


What you’ll do as a Director, Deposits Risk & Control:

  • Own and manage control documentation used by Deposit Services and our client-facing colleagues in our Banking Offices. Control documentation includes business unit procedures, guidelines, checklists, and any other supporting documents that are necessary to support Deposit colleagues in executing their assigned duties.
  • Establish and maintain processes that keep control documentation updated and accessible
  • Participate in efforts to enhance the connection and traceability of control documentation to risk and control self -assessments (RCSAs) owned by Deposit Services and to risk assessments performed by second line of defense functions. 
  • Leverage RCSAs and other inventories maintained within the Bank’s Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance (GRC) tool.
  • Direct all maintenance activity for the control documentation to accomplish the following:  
    • Confirm the content to be included in the scope of the control and any related procedures
    • Gather and leverage any existing materials
    • Confirm the format and level of detail of the workflows and documentation
    • Determine documentation priorities based on management feedback and operation schedules
    • Interview and confirm accuracy of content with subject matter experts
    • Incorporate edits as needed
  • Assist the Deposits Business in evolving first line of defense control monitoring, assessment, validation (including testing), and change management practices.,
  • Contribute to first line risk reporting by developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for your processes
  • Advise on initiatives to enhance the usability of procedures by refining existing process documentation and ensuring business line colleagues are appropriately trained on accessing the information they need to manage to manage risk.
  • Participate in risk and control design that support the execution of the Bank’s unique client service culture.
  • Contribute to efforts to remediate identified issues and emerging risks as control gaps arise.
  • Prepare timely responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) in support of internal and external examinations.


You could be a great fit if you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10 + years of experience in Bank Operations, Procedure Management, Risk or Compliance Management
  • Outstanding analytical, written and verbal communication skills will excellent attention to detail
  • A diplomatic, client service-oriented mindset, with an ability to build strong and trusting relationships across various company roles and functions
  • Welcome moments when you are asked to “own” projects, are well organized and able to work independently to solve problems and offer creative solutions that fit the context of ‘where we want to go’ in relation to ‘where we are’ within prescribed timelines
  • Strong research skills, advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.  
  • Experience in Enterprise level GRCs or content publishing tools (e.g., RSA Archer, Adobe Robohelp, etc.) a plus
  • Working knowledge of standard Risk/Control philosophies/methodologies
  • Work experience within any or all the following areas are highly desired:
    • Treasury/Finance/Accounting
    • Bank Operations
    • Compliance (e.g. Consumer Protection, Financial Crimes, Deposits, etc.)
    • Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery
  • Strong process flow and prioritization skills


Job Demands:

  • Must be able to review and analyze data reports and manuals; must be computer proficient.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively via telephone and in person.
