The AppDynamics Engineer is responsible for the solution design, configuration, oversight, review, implementation and support for the AppDynamics Platform.   As an engineer you will upgrade the software, maintain runbooks, deploy updated solutions, and configure settings in the environment.  You will provide on call production support on a rotational basis. You will create requests tickets for other infrastructure teams who create and support the Hardware for the environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support for AppDynamics deployments and production incident response
  • Leverage infrastructure automation tools to eliminate manual effort, and to detect and resolve potential problems before they degrade using AppDynamics platform
  • Develop anticipated operational processes, practice exception handling as part of go-live integration processes
  • Periodically, review known issue list on AppDynamics Support Portal, modify the manual based on experience
  • Integrate AppDynamics platform monitoring with corporate standard tool to make it easier for the operations support staff; train them in using the tools and alerts; practice exception handling
  • Provide the diagnostics info to AppDynamics Support through the portal for expeditious recovery – configuration profile, monitoring details and current state
  • Define AppDynamics Infrastructure Upgrade policy and frequency

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with AppDynamics or similar application level monitoring applications.
  • Hands-on Java and/or .Net Development
  • IT Operations and Application Support
  • Application and systems performance management, measurement and analysis. Exposure to another monitoring tool is a bonus
  • Deployment and configuration of complex enterprise software
  • Solid understanding of Operating Systems (Linux/Windows)
  • Experience with J2EE/LAMP/Microsoft stack
  • Experience with deployment methodologies (chef, puppet) Ability to customize RPMs, knowledge of Windows management tools.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols and basic troubleshooting tools.
  • Strong understanding of built in O/S monitoring and performance tools.
  • Must understand the OSI stack
  • Must understand the interrelationships between the various infrastructure layers O/S, Disk, Network, NAS, SAN.
  • Working with a wide variety of platforms and application stacks. Ability to understand new application frameworks in new environments quickly
  • Knowledge of UNIX shell scripting is a plus.
  • Knowledeg of Splunk is a plus.
  • Self-directed: works independently and is able to fulfill job requirements with minimal supervision.
  • Requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, work in a team environment, follow written policies and procedures, and maintain superior customer service at all times.
  • Assists Operations Control management increase departmental effectiveness by identifying opportunities for improvement and suggesting superior alternatives.
  • Trains other staff in new technologies, methods or process, when required.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to independently solve complex technical issues.
