First Republic Bank is looking for a motivated, experienced Business Analyst to join the Lending Strategy, Products and Sales team. The Business Analyst (BA) will provide support in the areas of Secondary Marketing (Capital Markets); mortgage product, pricing, and eligibility; mortgage underwriting; and mortgage financial technology.


The BA will report directly to the Senior Director, Lending Strategy, Products and Sales and will be primarily responsible for the analysis, design, development, documentation, and testing activities within the department.  The BA will work closely with various business partners and vendors to build and maintain effective working partnerships. The BA will also work with Business Leads and Subject Matter Experts (SME's) to identify, prioritize and implement solutions for the department.



  • Provide departmental support by documenting business requirements including:
    • Identify business needs, analyze workflows and existing process/systems vs. future state
    • Perform business analysis such as:
      • Document business requirements
      • Create use cases and functional specifications
      • Develop related documentation, including identified assumptions, dependencies, issues and risks
      • Design, execute and document application testing
      • Document results for communication to affected teams/areas
    • Represent the department by serving as a key contact for the business unit, technical vendors(and other SMEs
  • Support prioritization of work requests:
    • Identify business partner urgent and long-term needs
    • Advocate for business partners and workstream during inter-departmental prioritization processes
    • Maintain up-to-date priority and planning decisions in departmental tracking application
  • Act as Testing Lead:
    • Work with the business unit to document needed testing for all in-scope items
    • Create test scripts, coordinate testing efforts, and report testing results
  • Develop and document operational procedures to support improved products, processes, tool and measurements.
  • Assist in the creation of workstream specific project materials such as work plans, status reports, executive presentations,meeting notes etc.
  • Develop guides and procedures for users and training documentation
  • Responsibilities include the following:  1) adhering to and complying with the applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to Anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.) 2) adhering to Bank policies and procedures, 3) completing required training,  4) identifying and reporting suspicious activity to the AML Officer, and 5) knowing and verifying the identity of any customer(s) that enters into a relationship with the Bank.



Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Must possess 7-10 years of experience in business analysis or project management.
  • 3-5 years of experience with Loan Origination Systems and/or Mortgage Lending preferred.
  • Must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, notably Excel and Access.
  • Must possess the ability to produce technical design documents and requests in support of the Workstream and Business Line.
  • Must possess the ability to adapt to change, think creatively and excel in a fast paced, agile environment that depends on critical thinking and strong problem solving capabilities.
  • Must possess the ability to work both independently and with teams of varying sizes; includes ability to challenge and drive while also motivating and encouraging.
  • Must possess strong people, analytical, and process skills.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work pro-actively and operate accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with variable deadlines.
  • Must possess demonstrated organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Vision must be sufficient to read data reports, manuals and computer screens.
  • Hearing must be sufficient to understand a conversation at a normal volume, including telephone calls and in person.
  • Speech must be coherent to clearly convey or exchange information, including the giving and receiving of assignments and/or directions.
  • Position involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • Must be able to travel in a limited capacity.
