As a member of our Internal Audit team, the Internal Audit Senior Manager – Fin/Ops is responsible for planning, conducting and managing Private Wealth Management (PWM) finance and operational audits with minimal oversight.  As an Internal Audit Senior Manager, the position will also provide advisory services on financial, operational and regulatory risks and controls throughout the Bank and PWM.  This position will have a primary focus on the Private Wealth Management division, which includes First Republic Investment Management, First Republic Securities Company, First Republic Trust Company, Foreign Exchange, and Eagle Insurance.  There would be a secondary focus on certain Corporate functions, as needed.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist with developing and implementing an annual audit plan by assessing all relevant risk factors, considering management’s expectations of Internal Audit’s strategic involvement throughout the organization and with outside vendors.
  • Assist in defining, refining, implementing and maintaining the Company’s audit process, including department standards and procedures that will be overseen by the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Manage and execute audits, including identifying and analyzing risks, planning and prioritizing the audit work, conducting audit interviews, observing operations, documenting and analyzing procedures and controls, performing audit tests, preparing appropriate workpapers, developing audit recommendations and reviewing them with appropriate management, and preparing audit reports.
  • Manage multiple administrative functions such as budgets, scheduling resources, internal policy development, etc.
  • Be recognized as a leader, management consultant and internal controls expert; develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with finance, operations, compliance, and information systems’ management, learning and understanding the business to better provide value-added services, help management achieve objectives, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Liaise with and represent the Internal Audit department to external parties including national bank examiners and external auditors.  Also, manage co-sourced audit relationships.
  • Assist in recruiting, screening, hiring, developing and mentoring staff, including career-counseling support by sharing information among the Internal Audit group, transferring knowledge and providing instruction/guidance as appropriate.  Foster and maintain group spirit and team morale.
  • Ensure the overall quality, consistency, risk management and adherence to department and professional standards for internal audits, identifying opportunities for audit process improvement and integration with the financial and operational audit process. 
  • Maintain professional certification(s) and continue to develop and expand knowledge of the audit profession, information systems, bank regulatory issuances, our industry, and Company products and information through self-study, research, and continuing education efforts.
  • Act as a leader amongst the management team, to ensure collaboration, teamwork, and coordination.

Responsibilities include the following: 1) adhering to and complying with all applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to Anti-Money Laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, etc.), 2) adhering to Bank policies and procedures, 3) completing required training, 4) identifying and reporting potential suspicious activity to the BSA/AML Officer, and 5) knowing and verifying the identity of any customer(s) that enters into a relationship with the Bank.

Qualifications

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • 10+ years of Audit with an accounting, consulting, or financial services firm, with minimum of 4 years audit management experience.
  • Banking experience primarily focused in internal audit and Private Wealth Management (Investment Management, Securities, Trust, Insurance, and/or Foreign Exchange).
  • Sound knowledge and experience in banking / financial services and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to act as a financial, operational, and regulatory process and management consultant to management in any area of the company with minimal oversight. Must have knowledge of wealth management, in addition to an expertise in finance, operations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Possesses exceptional executive presence and ability to discuss complex issues with any level of management.
  • Possesses high quality audit skills and professional judgment.
  • Strong influencing abilities and techniques.
  • Demonstrated strong project management and organizational skills, with experience in successfully managing multiple projects at varying levels of technical difficulty at the same time.
  • Ability to define deliverables, create budgets and project plans, align resources and specialists for project teams, manage audit projects, present final reports to auditees and the regulators.
  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout the United States.
  • Professional certifications, such as CAMS, CIA, CPA, CFSA is expected.

MENTAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions; understand the meanings of words and respond effectively; and perform basic arithmetic accurately and quickly.
  • Vision must be sufficient to read data reports, manuals and computer screens.
  • Hearing must be sufficient to understand a conversation at a normal volume, including telephone calls and in person.
  • Speech must be coherent to clearly convey or exchange information, including the giving and receiving of assignments and/or directions.
  • Position involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • Must be able to travel as position requires.
  • May be required to lift 25-50lbs.
