    First Republic Bank is looking for a disciplined Operations Manager to lead the NOC (Network Operations Center) Site Reliability Engineering team in troubleshooting and owning the site reliability for the growing organization. This leader will have an SRE mindset and a set of engineering approaches focused on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and eliminating work through automation. This leader is highly responsive, intellectually curious, and thrives on massively distributed, fault tolerant systems. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to lead a team that ensures internally critical and externally visible systems have reliability and uptime appropriate to users' needs and a fast rate of improvement while keeping an ever-watchful eye on capacity and performance.

     

    The Operations Manager should not only have the technical chops to roll up their sleeves and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also empower and develop the team to do the same. They will advocate and act as a subject matter expert for First Republic Banks infrastructure within their Information Services area using communication to manage a variety of initiatives. The Operations Manager sustains the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the Bank’s technology platform by leading the teams responsible for infrastructure operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and refresh.  This includes, but is not limited to, cloud (AWS), hardware (server, storage and network fabric), software (operating systems, applications, utilities and patches), backups, restores, file transfers and fulfillment of disaster recovery plans.

    Responsibilities

    • Leads the NOC (Network Operations Center) Site Reliability Engineering team that provides the active, 24-hour monitoring of network fabric, servers, storage, applications, file transfers and backups. 
    • Own end-to-end availability and performance of mission critical services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence; automate response to all non-exceptional service conditions.
    • Lead by example, care for your team and establish credibility with the quality of your and your team's technical execution.
    • Manage on-call rotations across continents, using a follow-the-sun model.
    • Design, write and deliver automation to improve the availability, scalability, latency and efficiency of First Republic Bank services.

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • Experience in software development in one or more of the following: Java, C#, Python.
    • Experience managing an SRE team on large-scale projects with technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and/or storage.

    Mental/Physical Requirements:

    • The ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions; understand the meanings of words and respond effectively; and perform basic arithmetic accurately and quickly.
    • Vision must be sufficient to read data reports, manuals and computer screens.
    • Hearing must be sufficient to understand a conversation at a normal volume, including telephone calls and in person.
    • Speech must be coherent to clearly convey or exchange information, including the giving and receiving of assignments and/or directions.
    • Position involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
    • Must be able to travel in a limited capacity.
